Session 4: Using “Shelter” in the English Classroom

Cristina Matheson’s 2021 novel for young readers “Shelter” is a heart-wrenching tale of a young girl’s experience with homelessness in San Francisco. In this webinar, we will explore topics raised by the novel, including homelessness, exclusion, San Francisco and the differences between schools in Italy and the USA. The activities could also be used independently of the book, in standard English lessons, as well as Civics, CLIL and Inclusive Teaching lessons. As always, we will look at many activities that may be incorporated into lessons, all of which will be compiled in a detailed handout including worksheets and links, which will be sent to all participants in the webinar.
