Un argomento che affascina e cattura da sempre l’attenzione degli studenti è il personaggio di Harry Potter e tutto ciò che riguarda il suo magico mondo. Sono svariati i siti, gli strumenti e i canali che mettono a disposizione informazioni, testi e materiale audio e video da utilizzare per strutturare una lezione su questo famoso maghetto.

Step 1 – Il genere Fantasy

Prima ancora di toccare l’argomento nello specifico, credo sia interessante ed utile presentare le caratteristiche del genere Fantasy che attira un numero sempre più alto di fruitori e appassionati.

Propongo di seguito un testo estrapolato da un libro di narrativa per ragazzi che può essere un valido strumento per illustrare le caratteristiche di questo genere.

The Fantasy Genre

The fantasy is a genre of fiction that commonly uses magic, enchantment and other supernatural phenomena as a primary plot element, theme, or setting. Many works within the genre take place in imaginary worlds where magic and magical creatures are common.

Characteristics of the Fantasy Genre

• Magic: is the main element of the story as well as the contrast between God and Evil
• Characters: clearly defined as good or bad, often get special magical gift. Characters may include mythical creatures ( dragons, unicorns, elves, wizard, as well as more common animals)
• The story: may be based on a myth, legend or other traditional tales
• The setting: is often another world, often Earth, but out of time
• Events: occur outside the ordinary laws that operate within the Universe
• Book: start slowly as the author sets the scene, often with a large group of characters in a strange world
• Fantasy stories: often involve journeys and quests
• Science fiction: stories also operate outside the normal boundaries of the real world but they are usually set in the future and involve the wonders of technology
• Fairytales: are shorter than most fantasy works. Characters and settings lack specificity ( place names or detailed descriptions of characters are seldom given)

 

TYPES OF FANTASY 

There are 3 different ways of fantasy:

• Some novels begin and end in a fantasy world ( The Hobbit)
• Others start in the real world and move into a fantasy world ( Alice in wonderland, Peter Pan)
• A third type of fantasy is set in the real world but elements of magic intrude upon it

Step 2 – “Merlin The wizard and the Round Table”, il primo mago della storia della letteratura

Il secondo Step ha come scopo quello di tracciare una breve storia della magia o molto più semplicemente di indicare un precursore del genere. Credo che presentare la figura del Mago Merlino e della leggenda dei cavalieri della tavola rotonda possa essere un buon elemento di confronto rispetto ad un mago più moderno quale è Harry Potter. A questo proposito sarà interessante dopo aver presentato queste due figure così lontane nel tempo coinvolgere in un dibattito la classe e definire somiglianze e differenze tra i due. La presentazione dei due personaggi può avvenire tramite l’utilizzo di immagini e lo studio del loro aspetto fisico, dell’abbigliamento e nel tracciare una loro breve biografia.

Aspetti grammaticali e lessicali:

• Uso dei comparativi e dei superlativi
• Uso del passato
• Descrizione fisica: lessico legato all’aspetto fisico e al corpo umano
• L’abbigliamento.

Di seguito propongo un testo in lingua originale che può servire per introdurre la figura di Merlin.

According to the legend, the Round Table which hangs in the Great Hall of Winchester Castle is the table around which King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table met. It was probably created in about 1290, for a tournament near Winchester to celebrate the engagement of one of Edward I’s daughters.

Merlin the magician is one of the most colourful characters in the Arthurian Legend and one of the most fascinating figures in Welsh mythology. The great wizard, prophet and adviser to several kings, Merlin is the creation of Geoffey of Monmouth.

Merlin is a man of mistery and magic, in his traditional biography Merlin is the son of an incubus and a mortal woman and he inherits his powers from his strange birth.

There are many magical legends which surround Merlin, he was considered to be a mystical Druid, a Celtic priest, Merlin the Wizard, Merlin the Sorcerer, Merlin the Magician, a man who possessed the knowledge and secrets of the ancients. He was the mystical advisor of King Arthur at Camelot, he was the creator of the Round Table and the prophet of the Grail.

Attività proposta:

• Fai una breve presentazione dei due maghi, Merlin e Harry Potter.
• Traccia somiglianze e differenze tra i due personaggi.
• Immagina un incontro tra i due maghi:- scrivi un dialogo.
• Inventa una storia fantasy inserendo all’interno i due personaggi che abbiamo appena analizzato. Inventa anche altri personaggi e definiscine l’aspetto fisico e caratteriale, i loro poteri. Inserisci il tutto in un luogo del quale dovrai fare una descrizione dettagliata e precisa.
• Crea un incantesimo e un glossario di parole “magiche” inventate da te.

 

Step 3 – Harry Potter

Il passo successivo è rappresentato da un approfondimento del personaggio Harry Potter. Sono tantissime le attività che si possono proporre agli studenti per toccare tutte gli aspetti di questo argomento. In particolar modo proporrò alcuni spunti per interessanti compiti di realtà:

• Introduzione e biografia dell’autrice
• Compito di realtà: “La Londra di Harry Potter”. Crea una cartina di Londra nella quale inserirai tutti i luoghi dei romanzi di Harry Potter

• Compito di realtà: “Un giorno nella scuola di magia di Harry Potter”. Immagina di organizzare una visita alla scuola di magia di Harry Potter. Inserisci il regolamento, i laboratori che si possono frequentare e fornisci tutte le modalità di partecipazione

• Compito di realtà: “Una spettacolo di magia al College”. Prepara un evento di magia nella tua scuola, crea gli inviti e le locandine. Organizza la scaletta e gli ospiti. Crea un video di presentazione e uno dell’evento.

• Compito di realtà : “Il libro di magia”. Scrivi un manuale di magia inserendo trucchi, incantesimi e alla fine proponendo un glossario con i nuovi termini che avrai inventato.

Step 4 – CLIL Science

The eclipse

All’interno di questo lesson plan sono possibili alcuni collegamenti interdisciplinari. In particolare ho individuato due argomenti che possono essere utili a questo scopo. Il primo è un testo sulle eclissi, fenomeno che da sempre ha suscitato grande interesse non solo in campo scientifico ma anche in ambito astrologico ed esoterico.

Materiale proposto:

Sometime during their orbits, the Moon and the Earth from a line with th Sun. When it happens, an eclipse occurs. There are two kinds of eclipse – lunar an solar. A lunar eclipse happens when the Earth moves between the Sun and the Moon, blocking part of the Sun’s light from reaching the Moon. During a lunar eclipse, you can see the Earth’s shadow on the moon. In a solar eclipse, the Moon moves between the Earth and the Sun. When it happens, part of the Sun ‘s light is blocked. The sky slowly gets dark as the Moon moves in front of the Sun. When the Moon and the Sun are in a perfect line, it is called a total eclipse. These are very rare. Most people only see one in their lifetime.

• The mistery of Stonehenge

E’ un altro interessantissimo argomento che si college al tema del mistero, della magia e allo stesso tempo della storia e della geografia.

Step 5 Il Quiddich

Ho ritenuto di inserire al termine di questo lesson plan un’attività didattica che ho sperimentato personalmente due anni fa nell’istituto nel quale insegno. Insieme all’insegnante di Educazione Motoria abbiamo organizzato un torneo di Quiddich cercando di ricreare l’atmosfera e le caratteristiche di questo gioco come presentato nel libro e nel film.

Per prima cosa in classe abbiamo letto gli estratti del romanzo nei quali è contenuta la descrizione dei questo gioco. Oltre alla lettura abbiamo anche visto le scene del film in lingua originale in modo da avere una visione completa di esso. In un secondo momento abbiamo diviso la classe in gruppi dando ad ognuno i nomi delle squadre presenti nel romanzo. I ragazzi hanno provveduto a cercare l’abbigliamento e a preparare striscioni e cartelloni per allestire la palestra.

La terza fase è stata gestita dall’insegnante di educazione motoria che ha organizzato il torneo.
