The National University of Ireland, simply known as NUI, has ancient origins dating back to 1845. It has gained and maintained recognition as a Pioneer University in the field of research and education. Just a seven-minute walk from Galway city centre, this is the riverside city campus everyone is looking for. Students stay inside the Corrib Village in rooms with ensuite facilities. A modern campus full of Irish magic said to be due to the river which flows nearby, this truly is an Irish experience. NUI has a fantastic sports hall with a 25-metre six-lane  swimming pool, basketball court that can accommodate up to 600 people, a gym, an outdoor athletics track which also includes a full hockey field. There are also 16 restaurants and coffee shops on campus and a beautiful lecture theatre which is the hub of our social activities and lively social programme.

Many MLA centres operate a zig-zag format, with either morning lessons and afternoon activities, or morning activities and afternoon lessons. During the second week, the schedule will swap to the opposite format. Below there is a sample timetable. In many programmes in the United States and in some in the UK – where the excursion programme is rich – we use full-day lessons (mornings and afternoons) in order to allow for additional full-day excursions.
